4th Grade Buddies ~ Tangrams ~ Thank You

We met with our 4th grade buddies this morning.  The buddies read their newspaper to us and helped us make dragon puppets.

We read this book and then created pictures using tangrams.

As a thank you to the dining hall staff, we drew pictures of our favorite school foods and sang them a song.  I think this really made their day!

Taylor is Star of the Week ~ Hanukkah Traditions ~ Flight to China ~ China Activities

Taylor is our Star of the Week.  His favorite food is ice cream, and he is excited about Christmas.  Someday he wants to have a sleepover.  He likes to play Legos and watch Star Wars.

Sam's mom and dad came to school to share their Hanukkah traditions.
They shared their menorah, explained about eating foods cooked in oil, and read a story.

Sam's mom is explaining how to play the dreidel game while the students eat a snack of donuts and apple juice.

We "flew" to China today.  Everyone brought their luggage, boarding pass, and passport.

The K classes gathered together for the flight.

Everyone passed through customs once we landed in China.

We practiced using chopsticks.

We made the Chinese flag.

We tried paper cutting.

We watched a Chinese jump rope video and did some of the jump rope routines.

Chinese Lanterns

We read a book about Chinese lanterns, watched a video about a man in China who makes lanterns, and then made lanterns.

Here is the book that we read.

Our lanterns are decorating our room.

New Table Tops ~ Power Day

A group decided to roll the Model Magic into a snake.

Builders

Carpenters

More Rolling

The groups combined efforts and created one long snake.  They were very happy with the results.  The teamwork was awesome!

This group also worked together and combined their creations.  Lots of teamwork this morning - we love it!

We read this book today.  Ask your KC kid which power each brother had.  The class then wrote about powers that they would like to have.  I can....jump high, be invisible, run fast, jump over a 51 piece puzzle, or have color super power.

Writing Chinese Symbols and Numbers ~ Eyes ~ Snack

We read two books today that explain how certain Chinese symbols are created, and then we wrote the symbols from the book.  We first practiced with water and then wrote the symbols using paintbrushes and paint.  Later in the day, we practiced writing Chinese numbers.

We watched a few calligraphy videos.  It was interesting to see how quickly one person wrote and then how slowly another person wrote.  One of videos that we watched is now added to the blog.  Check the right side of the blog, above the Important Dates.

These are the books that we read.
We also learned some very cool things about our eyes in Science, and Katherine shared her Star of the Week snack.  Her snack began with the letter C.  Ask your KC kids what we had.

Estimation Jar ~ China Facts ~ December Fun

We counted Katherine's estimation jar items - gems.  There were 189 gems.  We counted by 10s, and each person in the class got to count a group of ten.

We read two books about China and then compared what is the same and different using a Venn diagram.

Here are some things that the students are doing in December.
